Ergonomics: Improving Posture in Your Office

If your job or schoolwork requires you to sit at a desk for many hours in a row every day, there’s a distinct chance that you are harming your body without even realizing it. The problem stems from bad posture. Today, the science of ergonomics, also known as human factors engineering, is designed to study people in the context of their working conditions.

As you were growing up, adults around you most likely reminded you about the importance of maintaining good posture. That’s good advice to follow. If you haven’t been paying attention to posture, the resulting painful sensations can be alleviated through chiropractic care. woman improving posture in her office space

Ways to Improve Posture

At Valley Chiropractic Center, our chiropractors serving Tracy, Mountain House and Manteca patients would like to offer tips to help you improve ergonomics and posture while sitting at a computer desk.

* Position your monitor so it is an arm’s length from your head when sitting.

* Hold your wrists straight and make sure your hands stay at the level of your elbows while typing.

* Set the height of your chair so your hips and knees are at the same level.

* Answer the phone by putting it on speaker or use a headset, rather than holding the phone to your neck and head (even if it’s just going to be a “quick” call).
